Secure Your Home: Choosing the Right Front Door Lock

Keeping your home safe is a top priority for homeowners. A strong front door is essential, but a secure lock is equally important. At PT Lock & Safe, we understand that choosing the right lock for your front door can be confusing. There are many factors to consider, and the type of door you have plays a big role.

Understanding Your Door Material

There are three main types of front doors, categorised by their material:

  • Wooden Doors. These classic doors offer timeless style and good insulation. However, they can be more susceptible to forced entry.
  • uPVC Doors. Made from unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, uPVC doors are a popular choice for their affordability, durability, and weather resistance.
  • Composite Doors. Combining the strength and security of a wooden core with a weatherproof uPVC exterior, composite doors offer the best of both worlds.

The Right Lock for Your Door

The type of lock you choose depends on the material of your front door:

Wooden Doors. Traditionally, wooden doors have two locks:

  • Latch  A basic locking mechanism that uses a spring-loaded bolt to secure the door when closed.
  • Mortice Lock and Deadbolt. A more secure lock operated by a key. This lock features a deadbolt that extends into the door frame for added security.

uPVC and Composite Doors. These doors typically feature a  Euro cylinder multi point locking system. This system uses a single cylinder with multiple locking points along the door's edge, providing excellent security.
