Four Reasons Why Key Remotes Fail
Identifying the cause behind your malfunctioning car fob can make it easier to solve the problem and get you back on the road as quickly as possible. To help you work out exactly why your car won’t open, we have listed four of the most common reasons car key remotes fail.
- Manufacturer Defect: Sometimes you can just be unlucky and end up with a faulty fob. There are a number of reasons why car key remotes can come off the production line in less than perfect condition.
- Broken Internal Contacts: Although car key remotes are pretty robust, they’re not indestructible. If yours has been knocked, dropped, driven over or otherwise damaged, its internal contacts may well have broken or come loose. This will cause the fob to stop working and could lead to you being locked out of your vehicle.
- Communication Problems: In order for a car remote to operate as it should, it needs to be properly paired with the receiver in your vehicle. If they’re not in sync, they won’t be able to talk to each other and your remote won’t work. In most cases, this issue can be resolved by simply reprogramming the remote.
- Dead Battery: Eventually the batteries in your car key remote will die. If the remote is a sealed unit, you’ll need to contact a specialist auto locksmith to replace the batteries for you.
